NIGEL Day won the Jersey Cup, a singles stableford competition open to men and women at West Berks.

The four-handicapper shot a six over par 79 to register a stableford score of 34 to win by three shots.

There was a remarkable seven-way tie on 31 points with Steve Cox taking second place on count-back and Mike Wiggins third.

Also on 31 points was the leading lady, Tina Mulford, John Carroll, Luke Prestoe, Darren Galbrath and Charlie Austin.

John Bennett won the men’s Saturday stableford with 37 points, five points clear of Ian Lewin in second place while Kieran Dooley was one shot behind third.

Mark Sparvell won the men’s midweek medal with a gross 92, nett 75. Kevin Forder took second place on nett 84 and Lin Kay was third on 85.

Ann Davies won the ladies’ May Stableford scoring 32 points. Simone Diamond was second on 27 points and Jane Wilmore third on 26.

Mulford won the ladies' May medal with a gross 98, nett 78. Sandy Miller was second with nett 80 and Gale McAuley third with 84.

In the team events, the men, led by Stuart Harrison, won their first round Hillman Trophy match against Henley 4½-2½ and will meet either Oakland Park or Royal Household in the second round.

The ladies halved 2-2 at home to North Wilts, while the seniors lost 4-2 at Drayton Park and the men’s Saturday friendly fixture at Ogbourne Downs was lost 5-1.

  • IT was not much like spring weather for the two Spring Trophies, seniors and ladies, at Theale Golf Club.

Nevertheless, there were some good scores recorded in the Seniors’ Trophy and none better that the 41 stableford points from seniors' vice-captain, Jim Russell.

In second place was Gary Turner with 38 points, just ahead of Kris Mallett who returned a 37 for third spot.

In the Ladies Trophy, Lisa Meredith beat Wendy Davies by four points, Helen Allen, playing off a 34 handicap, coming third.
