Reading Fencing Club hosted the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) for a series of matches recently.

The match was open to intermediate-level fencers, with two of the hosts’ fencers coming from the current beginner course.

RFC A – made up of Munawar Karim, Lewie Jackson and Rathish Punneli – beat RMAS B 45-28, but narrowly lost to RMAS A in a tight fight 45-40.

The home side’s B team of Beau Rahim, Josh Jackson and Max Dutton lost to RMAS A 45-32 and RMAS B 45-39.

The C teams consisted of reserve fencers, with RMAS C fielding two teams. The Reading trio of Oleg Fylpenko, Len Quinn and Simon Readman won both their matches, 45-38 and 45-23.

  • READING Fencing Club’s Eda Onay downed clubmate Emily Williams to win the U16 Girls Epee title at the Southern Region Age Group Epee & Sabre Championships in Swindon.

In the U18 Boys’ contest, Noam Rosenbaum grabbed the runners-up spot, with Charlotte Williams matching that achievement in the girls’ equivalent.

Genevieve Pratley came eighth in the U12s contest, while Elizabeth Ryan was 10th.

Aedyn Pratley finished 14th in the U14 Boys’ competition, and in the U16 event, James Radford was 10th, Gregor MacLeod came 14th and Oskar Strugar ended in 17th place.

In the Sabre events, Genevieve Pratley secured a runners-up spot, and Aedyn Pratley grabbed bronze in the U14s tournament.

Top-four finishes also qualified competitors for the British Youth Championships later this year.
