PROLIFIC Charlie Oakley scored twice to take his tally for the season to 28 goals in just 23 appearances as Sandhurst Town eased past AFC Aldermaston 3-0 in Division One East of the Hellenic League, writes Richard Ashton.

Both sides had shots from distance early on, but Aldermaston goalkeeper Kevin Butcher was the first to be tested when he had to punch clear a Dan Gosling free-kick.

The home side did take the lead, however, in the 23rd minute. Sam Green burst down the wing and sent a diagonal ball into the path of Oakley, with the striker finishing calmly to make it 1-0.

Oakley had a couple more chances before the break, but while the Fizzers continued to dominate, they could not add to their lead before half time.

It took just four minutes of the second period for Sandhurst to move further in front, though, Oakley bagging his second, and they put the game to bed on the hour mark when good work from Freddie Barron and Bobby Mitchell set-up Richard Hughes to make it 3-0.

Aldermaston continued to battle and could have grabbed a consolation when Liam Tackley’s shot went over the bar, while at the other end, young substitute Jamie Barrett and Conor Harlowe linked up well but to no avail in trying to add a fourth goal for the hosts.

The defeat leaves AFC Aldermaston 10th in the table ahead of their home game with Thame Rangers this coming Saturday (3pm).

There was more success for the Atom Men in the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup on Tuesday night, however, Kai Parton-Edey’s 70th-minute strike securing a 2-1 victory in the first round against fellow Division One East side Chalfont Wasps.

Martin King was the other goalscorer for Aldermaston., who next face Flackwell Heath.
