IT was the final match on the River Kennet for this season with the remaining matches to be held on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Froxfield.

With the first overnight frosts of the season arriving during the week and cold rain proceeding the match, a tough day's fishing was expected.

Forty-nine anglers were booked in for the match and the weather was cold and dry with some sunny spells, cold and a strong northerly wind blowing.

The river had a good colour and the flow was slightly down on normal. The total match weight was 21lbs 11ozs with an average weight of just 9 ounces per angler.

The top three teams on the day were Reading Fishing Club with 9lbs, T.R.B.L.A.S. with 5lbs 15ozs and Reading Civil Service with 4lbs 14ozs.

The match was won by Terry Littlewood of T.R.B.L.A.S.

Littlewood fished the confluence of the Holybrook and Kennet on Beat Five section and banked two chub to 2lbs 8ozs and some "silvers" during the course of the match fishing stick float method with double red maggot on the hook to record a weight of 5lbs 3ozs.

Simon Couling of Reading Fishing Club was second overall. Based at the first peg upstream of the road bridge at Burghfield, he banked one chub of 4lbs 10ozs, and unfortunately lost another chub which was foul hooked, fishing maggot feeder tactics to weigh in 4lbs 10ozs.

Phil Allen of Reading Civil Service was third with just 4lbs 7ozs which included a chub of 4lbs 4ozs along with a perch.

Dave Bosher of Reading Fishing Club was fourth with 3lbs 1oz and clubmate Pete Godfrey was fifth with 14ozs.

The club championship has Reading Fishing Club out in front with 114lbs 4ozs, while T.R.B.L.A.S. follow them with 106lbs 2ozs.

Tony Tibble still leads the individual weight trophy with 38lbs 7ozs and Phil Allen follows him with 37lbs 5ozs.

The points championship lead is shared between Mick Donohoe and Tony Tibble with 32 points each.
