LAST weekend saw only three RDAA Clubs out on the waters with one on the River Kennet, two on the Thames and one on a lake, writes Alan Hughes.

Tilehurst Royal British Legion held their match on the Beat Five section of the Kennet and Andy Chapman had a good day on the noted chub swim just downstream of Berkeley Avenue roadbridge.

He netted five of the species to take top spot with 22lbs 2ozs, with the largest weighing 5lbs 12ozs.

Tony Tibble took the runner-up spot with 12lbs 8ozs of silver fish and Mick Fairey had one chub plus silvers for third with 11lbs.

Wallingford A section on the Thames was the venue for Prestcold A.C.

Gordon McGee took the honours with 10lbs 9ozs of roach, skimmers, perch and dace. Graham Hawkins claimed the runner-up spot with 10lbs 2ozs of similar species and this beat third-placed Geoff Eley by 4ozs.

Tring Anglers used the Mapledurham Beat One stretch of the Thames for their match and found the roach still feeding. Ten anglers turned out and weighed in a total of 49lbs 12ozs averaging just shy of 5lbs per man.

The winner was Andy Allday, taking 8lbs 12ozs to the scales to push Glen Miller into second spot with 8lbs. Just one ounce behind Miller was Chris Howe.

Bracknell Avocets fished their match on Longwater Lake in Green Park. There were no dry nets and roach were the fish of the day.

The overall match weight was 311bs 15ozs. The match was won by Paul Holland with 6lbs 13ozs. In second spot was Barry Morten with 6lbs 4ozs and third was Richard Herman Snr. with 5lbs 12ozs.

Away from RDAA venues Reading Fishing Club staged their annual match with Godalming on the Thames at Beale Park.

Peter Godfrey took the honours with an all-roach catch that weighed in at 11lbs 6ozs. Martin Vigor took second spot with 11lbs 5ozs which included a tench of 7lbs and George Callaghan completed the trio with 10lbs 14ozs of roach.

The Tuesday Club returned to Pangbourne Meadows on the Thames and John Ambrose took the honours again with an all-roach net which took the scales down to 6lbs 8ozs.

Dave Bosher claimed second place with two chub for 6lbs 2ozs and third spot went to Callaghan with an all-roach catch of 6lbs 1oz.
