THERE were pars and birdies galore in Division One of the Monthly Medal at Caversham Heath on Sunday.

Michael Deignan (6hcp) bagged 43 points to beat runner-up Andrew Parker by one point (even halves of 21 points).

Third was Will Tate (3hcp) on countback from Mark Banham (10hcp), both with 40 points.

The Division Two winner was Paul Lobban (14hcp) with 38 points. Second was David Holloway (11hcp) on count back from Adam Paul Baker (16hcp), both with 37 points.

In Division Three, Simon Read (19hcp) topped the pile with 38 points taking victory on countback from Kevin Iremonger (25hcp)and Samuel Kpani Addy (20hcp).

Twos were recorded by Andy King (1st hole), Baker (8th), Deignan, Kpani Addy and Tate (13th) and by Stephen Halford, Stewart Smith and Tate (17th).

Jonathon Clark won Division One of the midweek stableford with 39 points, edging out Darren Bonney. Third was Dennis Sunderland (11hcp) with 37.

Division Two winner was Kpani Addy (20hcp) with 39 points.

Runner-up was Jim Willson (25hcp) with 37 and third was Keith Reid (20hcp) with 36.

  • WEST Berks seniors started this year’s campaign in defence of the M4 Seniors Winter League title with a 3-1 win away at Donnington Grove.

Andy Grayson won the men’s midweek stableford with 42 points. He was four shots clear of John Harris who was second while Bill Loughlin with 34 points beat Graham Coe on countback to take third place.

Rob Bridgeman took the seniors’ medal by shooting a gross 87, nett 71. One shot behind in a three-way tie for second place with the order of decided on countback were David Gentleman, Colin Harrison and Tony Cleaver.

Jane Brackenbury won round two of the ladies’ Gillas Cup with 39 points. Gale McAuley was second on 35 and Tina Mulford third with 33.

Mulford won the ladies’ Summer Eclectic with a score of 56. Brackenbury was second on 60.5 beating McAuley on countback.

The men’s Saturday friendly team won a close home match 3½-2½ against Hadden Hill, while the Central Sevens had a busy and what proved to be unsuccessful weekend losing 2½-4½ on Saturday at Witney Lakes and 4-3 at home to Carswell on Sunday.

  • In the October monthly stableford at Calcot Park, Mark Darby (19hcp) won the day, and also Division Three, with 42 stableford points on countback from Darren Gatward (3hcp), who won Division One.

George Wilson (1hcp) was third with 39 points, while David Cook (15hcp) won Division Two with 38 stableford points.
