LIAM Kelly, John Swift and Jordan Obita could all be fit and available for Reading FC when they make the short trip to Brentford tomorrow (3pm ko).

Kelly – Royals’ Player of the Month for August – picked up a calf injury during the second half of last Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Bristol City.

Swift has been sidelined with a hamstring problem since he limped out a 1-0 loss at Preston almost a month ago.

Obita, meanwhile, is yet to pull on a Reading shirt this season as he battles back from a long-standing ankle injury.

However, Swift and Obita have resumed full training, while Kelly is expected to pass a late fitness test ahead of the clash at Griffin Park.

Stam explained his decision to take Kelly off early last weekend.

“He got a knock on his calf and it was getting worse,” added Stam. “He couldn’t give his best any more so there was risk of a worse injury.”

Reading Chronicle:

John Swift limps out of the clash at Preston last month.

Stam could be tempted to tinker with his squad as he looks for a response to the Bristol City defeat.

Royals spurned a glut of chances on the day, with Jon Dadi Bodvarsson missing several gilt-edged opportunities alone before Aden Flint cracked a late winner for the Robins.

Stam added: “We could have made better decisions at times to create even more opportunities, but it’s not all about one player.

“Everybody takes responsibility in front or goal.”

Last weekend’s loss was Reading’s first home defeat in 13 league matches.

However, Royals did win their last away fixture in the Championship after a 2-0 win at Birmingham City when George Evans and Bodvarsson were on the scoresheet.

Stam’s men now face Brentford side in a slump, with Bees still searching for their first league win of the campaign.

Reading Chronicle:

Jordan Obita is yet to make an appearance this season due to injury.

However, Dean Smith’s side have recorded creditable draws against Aston Villa, Bristol City and Wolves, though they were beaten 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night when Royals were without a fixture due to the postponement of the home game against Barnsley.

Smith is sweating on the fitness of defender Henrik Dalsgaard, while two key players – winger Sergi Canos and striker Lasse Vibe – are sidelined with ankle and foot problems respectively.

Meanwhile, fans are being advised to leave plenty of time for the journey to Griffin Park due to engineering works at Reading Station.
