READING Racers face their biggest test so far this season in the Speedway Southern Development League, as they travel to Plymouth tonight.

Sitting in second place to Kent Kestrels only on points difference, this will be their toughest away match to date, as the Demons include two of their National League regulars in Henry Atkins and Jamie Halder.

The Devon side could have a big say in the destination of the title, with matches in hand including one at Kent on September 25th, the same night as the Reading team go there for a top-of-the-table clash with the Kestrels.

It has been a successful return to the track for the exiled Racers - who are racing their home matches at Eastbourne’s Arlington stadium - and while this league is primarily about giving young riders valuable racing experience, both riders and management are keen to take the chance of some silverware now they are so close to the top.

Both teams could be struggling to name their full line up, with Reading squad members Nick Laurence and Drew Kemp both unavailable for the trip.

But with SDL top dog Luke Harris and ex Plymouth rider William O’Keefe in their ranks, they are confident of having a good night in Devon.

Friday’s teams:

Reading Racers: 1. Luke Harris, 2. Stephen Whitehouse, 3. TBC, 4. William O’Keefe.

Plymouth Demons: 1. Henry Atkins, 2. Jordan Bull, 3. Jamie Halder, 4. TBC.
