OLA John is being linked with a possible return to Reading FC.

Reports in the national media claim the 25-year-old Benfica winger could be set for a second loan spell with Royals.

But the Chronicle understands there is little substance in the rumour at this stage.

John spent the 2015-16 Championship campaign with Reading after former boss Steve Clarke brought him to Madejski Stadium on a loan deal.

He made 28 league appearances and scored four goals during that season before returning to Benfica.

John joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan in summer 2016, but his time in the Midlands was blighted by injury and the deal was cut short in January after just 71 minutes of playing time.

Reading Chronicle:

Ola John scored four times in 28 league games for Royals.

The one-cap Netherlands international then moved to Deportivo La Coruna for the remainder of the campaign, making 11 appearances for the Spanish club.

Reports now suggest John could be on his way back to Berkshire to beef up Reading’s attack and provide competition for Garath McCleary, Roy Beerens, Moudou Barrow and Callum Harriott.

Royals boss Jaap Stam has brought in five new faces during the summer transfer window following the capture of Leandro Bacuna, Vito Mannone, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Pelle Clement and Barrow.

Reading will be aiming to bounce back from Saturday’s Championship defeat at Preston when they host Millwall in the Carabao Cup second round at Madejski Stadium tomorrow night (8pm ko).
