SONNING put in a fine performance to win their annual game against REME 4-0.

Bill Branagh and Simon Warren won 3&2, Graham Burgess and Alan Wearing 4&3, John Butcher and Alan Tubb 3&2 and Nick Pflaeger & Mike Townend took victory 1up.

The inaugural GAMES Trophy played between the 1st and 3rd teams ended in a 5-5 draw.

The format was 10 singles matches with full handicap difference, and Chris Gurney Jr won his match 4&3 to put his side in front.

Mark Symons also notched a point for the 1st team when he finished birdie-eagle to overturn a one-hole deficit to win 1up.

Steve Jennings earned a point for the 3rd team by holing a 25-foot putt on the 18th to beat Mark Hall 1up.

In yet another close match, George Jennings levelled the scores at 2-2 when despite losing the 16th and 17th, he held his nerve against Matt Roberts to seal a 1up victory.

Alex Measures won by the same margin against first-teamer Mark Challis, but a fine two-over gross round from Pete Davidson allowed him to overcome Branagh 2&1.

The third team moved in front thanks to victories for Keith Avenal against Mark Dean (2up) and Jez Hampton’s 4&3 success against club secretary Andy George.

And they looked set to seal a stunning win with both Wayne Adamson and Chris Sandy leading round the turn, however, Damien Hewitt turned things around against the former to seal a 3&1 success, and Kin Law did the same to down Sandy on the 18th 1up.

Sonning lost their mixed friendly match at Calcot Park 4½-2½.

They started well as Branagh and Barbara Shanks won 2&1, but the match was squared after Richard Ginn and Ksenia Penchukova were beaten 3&2.

Malcolm Reid and Sarah Davidson took their match 1 up, but defeats for Davidson and Sally Branagh, (1dn) and Fred Freeman and Karen Hampton (4&3) meant Calcot were in front.

Des Harwin and Hilda Freeman halved their match to keep Sonning in the contest, but the anchor pair of Jeremy Hampton and Grace Reid were beaten 4&3.
