READING FC are believed to have tabled a seven-figure bid for Hull City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic.

Royals are said to have made an offer in the region of £1.2 million for the Swiss international.

But sources in the north east state the bid has been rejected by the Tigers and that 32-year-old Jakupovic is keen to stay in the Premier League, with Leicester City also keen to sign him.

Jakupovic joined Hull from Greek club Aris in 2012 but Bosnia-born ex-Lokomotiv Moscow stopper has made only 33 league appearances for the club and spent two loan spells with Leyton Orient in 2014.

Reading boss Jaap Stam is desperately searching for a new No.1 with Ali Al-Habsi on the verge of joining Saudi top-flight club, Al-Hilal.

Stam was heavily linked with a move for Fulham stopper David Button earlier this week, though the Cottagers are reluctant to sell to a Championship rival, having lost to Reading in last season's play-off semi final.

Royals could now return to Hull with an improved offer for Jakupovic after Stam questioned Anssi Jaakkola's ability to fill Al-Habsi's boots.

Finland international Jaakkola, 30, is yet to make a league appearance for Royals since his arrival from Ajax Cape Town last summer.

Stam confirmed: “I want to bring in a goalie. I'm not saying he'll be number one because Anssi needs to push for it as well.

“He's been behind Ali all season as second goalie but, with Ali leaving, Anssi needs to push and show he can be first choice.”

Meanwhile, Reading have agreed a fee with Wolverhampton Wanderers for striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

The 25-year-old Iceland international is due to undergo a medical at Hogwood Park before penning a two-year contract.

He is then expected to join up with Stam's squad on their pre-season tour of Holland.

Stam stepped up his search for a new striker after last season's top scorer Yann Kermorgant was ruled out for up to three months following hip and groin surgery this week.

Bodvarsson will become Stam's second summer signing after Ajax Jong midfielder, Pelle Clement.

“I know which positions I need to strengthen,” added Stam. “Normally you look for two players of the same quality for every position, but that's difficult.

“We also want to bring youngsters into the squad, but they also need a certain quality.”
