READING FC boss Jaap Stam has joined the race to sign Ghanaian international full-back Andy Yiadom, reports suggest.

The Royals' manager is keen on strengthening his options at right-back for next season and has already been linked for moves for Derby County's Cyrus Christie and Celtic's Saidy Janko.

But reports today state Dutchman Stam could also make a move for 25-year-old Yiadom, who joined Barnsley FC on a free transfer last summer.

Yiadom, who can play as a winger or as a wing-back, made 33 appearances for Paul Heckingbottham's Tykes last season, helping guide the team to a 14th placed finish.

But his performances did not go un-noticed and a host of Championship clubs - as well as Premier League side Swansea City - are thought to be interested in his services.

However, it is understood Heckingbottham will command at least £2m for Yiadom.

The London-born defender was capped three times by England C before being called up by Ghana to this year's African Cup of Nations competition in January.

He has earned two caps for the Black Stars and made his debut in a 1-0 defeat to Egypt.
