READING FC are chasing Panathinaikos midfielder, Mubarak Wakaso.

Royals boss Jaap Stam is reported to be keen on the 26-year-old who spent the second part of last season on loan with Spanish side Granada.

Stam could be looking to strengthen in midfield with doubts hanging over the future of out-of-contract, Danny Williams.

Liam Kelly, 21, has also been linked with a move to Premier League Swamsea City after an impressive debut season in the Royals first team.

Wakaso, who often plays as a winger, is said to be in favour of a move from Greek club Panathinaikos.

It is said Italian outfit Atalanta have also expressed their interest in signing the 49-time capped Ghana international.

But reports elsewhere suggest Stam is leading the chase for Wakaso, who lists Villarreal and Espanyol among his former clubs.

He also played five game for Celtic while on loan from Russian side Rubin Kazan during the 2014/15 campaign.

Stam already has a number of summer targets in mind following links with Celtic full-back Saidy Janko, Real Zaragoza striker, Angel, who hit 21 goals in Spain's second tier last season, and Nancy defender, Modou Diagne.

The Reading Chronicle revealed last week that Royals are ready to hand Stam a new two-year deal when he returns from holiday.

The 44-year-old Dutchman, who has one year left on his current contract, is on the Leeds United shortlist to replace Garry Monk.

But Stam's agent has insisted he is not looking to leave the Madejski Stadium and will remain 'loyal' to the Royals.
