JAMIE Liu won two golds and was named player of the tournament at the Zagreb Open.

The Reading youngster spearheaded the English challenge, competing in both singles and team events.

And he swept to victory in both, alongside Louis Price in the team event and beating his team-mate 3-2 (5-11, 11-6, 11-7, 8-11, 12-10) in an all-England final in the singles. Liu, 13, who attends the Table Tennis England National Talent Academy at Ackworth School in Yorkshire, was named Best Boy Player by organisers in recognition of his feat.

Prior to his Croatia trip, Liu was treated for a tear in his calf muscle by his local chartered physiotherapists based at Woodley.

Jacky Davey, a director at 3 Way Healthcare who also sponsors Jamie, said: β€œIt is so important to receive prompt treatments and Jamie is very lucky to have his injury treated immediately before it could get a lot worse.”

Liu will this weekend aim to add to his success when he plays at the Cadet & Junior National Championships in Gillingham.
