READING & District League Division Two leaders Aces turned on the style to thrash Whiteknights 67-32.

The match started strongly for the leaders as solid team defence saw them earn several key interceptions.

Strong feeds from WA Ollie Thompson and C Jen Wright meant Aces were able to capitalise on this and finish the first quarter with a 17-7 lead.

In the second quarter, Whiteknights doubled up on GS Sarah Clarke which allowed GA Alex Webb to create great space around the circle and convert some shots from distance.

Trailing 36-16 at half time, Whiteknights switched their centre-court line-up as their player-of-the-match Jo Awbery moved from C to WA and WD Emma McCarthy moved to C.

This disrupted Aces’ rhythm and the third quarter was closer. Awbery continued to find space in the centre and attacking third to accurately feed shooters Helen Knowles and Brenda Lacey, although Aces did again extend their advantage to 50-25 at the end of the third stanza.

In the final period, Aces regrouped and stepped up the intensity, WD Jane King and their star performer Wright picking up interceptions in the centre third.

Despite continued pressure from Whiteknights, Aces were able to work the ball swiftly down the court and convert their turnovers, pulling away for a comfortable win.
