READING Fencing Club’s Charlotte Williams was crowned the under 18 girls’ Southern region champion in Swindon on Sunday.

On a successful day for the club, Emily Williams also came second in the U16 girls event and Gregor McLeod seventh in the U14 boys.

Oskar Strugar was 10th in that contest, while James Radford (eighth in U16 boys), Alex Gladden (14th), Matthew Boyer (16th), Lewis Jackson (21st) and Noam Rosenbaum (seventh in U18 boys) also competed.

  • READING comfortably defeated Swindon 45-18 with a fine display in their first match of the year.

The RFC team consisted of Russell North, Jeff Rosenbaum and Noam Rosenbaum.

After the first bout ended 4-4, they gradually built up a commanding lead over the next few bouts to be ahead 25-9 by the fifth of nine bouts in the relay match.

Reading’s next match is due to be held at Egham on May 19, where RFC will also face fencers from Morley.

Reading Fencing Club welcomes anyone interested to try out the sport, with beginners’ courses being run throughout the year.
