READING FC director of football Brian Tevreden is wanted by Championship rivals Derby County.

Rumours have surfaced suggesting Rams see Tevreden as the perfect man to replace technical director Chris Evans who was sacked yesterday along with manager Steve McClaren and assistant Chris Powell.

The Chronicle understands there has been no contact between Reading and Derby and that Tevreden remains committed to his role at Madejski Stadium.

However, it is also thought the Dutchman remains a target for the Rams, who could tempt Reading with a big compensation offer.

Tevreden has overseen a huge turnover of players at Reading since joining the club last February after leaving his coaching post with Ajax where he worked closely with Royals boss Jaap Stam.

The 35-year was brought in to replace Reading's former director of football, Nick Hammond, when he switched to West Bromwich Albion.

Tevreden has been instrumental in Royals' recruitment process that saw players such a club-record signing Tiago Ilori join from Liverpool for around £3m and others including former Leicester City defender Liam Moore and Chelsea starlet John Swift establish themselves as first-team regulars.
