ROY Beerens wants his Reading FC team-mates to make amends for their disappointing stalemate against Barnsley when they host Brentford tonight (8pm ko).

Jaap Stam’s men drew their second game in a row on Saturday after a 0-0 stalemate at home to Paul Heckingbottom’s Tykes, despite creating numerous chances to take the lead.

The result allowed Huddersfield to leapfrog Reading into third place in the Sky Bet Championship table, and they now face another tough test against the Bees.

The reverse fixture back in September saw Reading slump to a 4-1 defeat at Griffin Park, but Dutchman Beerens is confident they will put things right at Madejski Stadium.

“It’s going to be a hard game but we need to get the three points,” he asserted.

“We have to be positive. To be honest I think should have won against Barnsley.

“We did everything we could, we put pressure on them but we didn’t score so we made it difficult for ourselves.”

Beerens was among several Royals’ players who squandered opportunities to break the deadlock against the resilient Yorkshire outfit on Saturday afternoon.

He continued: “We had some good chances in the first half, we played very well and we were very aggressive.

“Sometimes you have those games where you can’t score.

“The pitch makes it difficult, if you look at me and Garath (McCleary), we like to play with the ball on the ground with lots of one-on-ones and with this pitch it’s not very easy.”

The 28-year-old was deployed in his more natural position as a winger on Saturday, having been used in several different roles this season, including a centre-forward.

He has scored six goals in 30 starts for Jaap Stam already this campaign, but Beerens insisted his most effective position is on the flanks.

“Playing on the wing is my main position,” he declared.

“ I’ve always played on the right wing but we have Garath McCleary so here I play on the left.

“I feel comfortable, everyone can see that when I play on the wing that’s my best position.

“I’ve also played as a midfielder and a striker, I think I’ve done well and I’ve done my job but playing on the wing is my main position.”
