READING FC boss Jaap Stam is confident Jordon Mutch's pace and technical ability will be a winner in the Championship title race.

Mutch became Stam's third January signing this afternoon when he joined from Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace on loan for the rest of the season.

The 25-year-old attack-minded midfielder follows Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori and Steaua Bucharest forward, Adrian Popa, to the Madejski Stadium this month, with West Ham starlet Reece Oxford also set to join on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

And Stam believes Mutch will be a valuable addition to his squad in the weeks to come.

“Jordon is a good technical player, he is quick and he has good stamina as a runner in midfield," said the Reading manager.

"He has a lot of experience of both Championship and Premier League football and it is good to bring a player with his quality into the squad.

"He will give us more choices against different opponents and different styles of play going forward.”

Mutch was signed too late in the window to be involved in tonight's Championship clash at Birmingham City (7.45pm ko).

However, the former Birmingham City and QPR star has plenty of experience under his belt, having helped Cardiff City win promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

He then scored seven goals in the top-flight for the Bluebirds and was a big favourite in the Welsh capital.

As well as possessing bundles of pace, Mutch is also the scorer of spectacular goals.

Of his 40 appearances for Crystal Palace, the most recent came last weekend in an FA Cup defeat to Manchester City.

The ex-England youth international could make his Reading debut at Ipswich Town this Saturday (3pm).

Reading chief executive Nigel Howe added: “Jordon is player who has spent so much of his career playing Premier League football, so his valuable experience and undoubted ability will certainly help bolster the first team squad as we go into the final three months of the season.”

Reading also hope to sign a new striker before tonight's 11pm deadline after missing out on Tomi Juric.
