READING Wildcats recorded an impressive 6-4 home victory against Hitchin on Saturday.

Having edged through against the same opponents with an 11-10 golden goal triumph in the South of England Flags knock-out competition a fortnight previously – in a game which set a record as the first game in the event to require seven periods of overtime – the hosts found the going far easier this time around.

Wildcats 2nds were knocked out in the first round of the Knockout Flags competition after losing 12-3 to Milton Keynes.

Reading’s Luke Gurton, back from injury, made an impressive return, working well with Steve Purvey and Phil Garthside to create more shooting chances than the team has had in recent games.

Wildcats welcome Hampstead to the John Madejski Academy on Saturday (2pm), while the 2nds travel to East Grinstead.
