LAST weekend saw one RDAA Club match on the River Kennet, three on the Thames and one on the canal.

The Kennet continues its run of bad form especially when compared to the Thames.

Eight anglers turned up at Beat 5B of the Kennet at Berkeley Avenue roadbridge. The river was pushing with a bit of colour and bites were few and far between.

Dave Moore won the match with 2lbs 13ozs of dace, perch and roach from end peg downstream, fishing stick float and red maggots.

In second spot was Andy Allday who weighed in 1lb 2ozs of small dace, perch and gudgeon. He was pegged on the high wall. Third was Glenn Miller with 10ozs of tiny perch.

On the Thames, nine members of Prestcold A.C. visited Northmoor near Witney. In top spot was Roy Green with 6lbs 12ozs of silvers. In second place was Geoff Eley who took 6lbs 4ozs to the scales catching the same species as the winner. Alan Hughes completed the line-up with 6lbs 2ozs, again of similar species.

Nine Elms fished the Mapledurham stretch. This normally prolific roach venue failed to deliver the goods and it was left to Les Hannington to take the honours with 2lbs 14ozs of roach and dace. The runner-up place was claimed by Richard Munday with 2lbs 13ozs of dace and chub. Third spot was Gordon McGee with 2lbs 12ozs of similar species.

Moving downstream to Sonning River and fishing their match on this venue was South Reading A.C’s Duncan Bales who led the field with 11lbs 7ozs of mixed silver fish. Second place was claimed by Ron Cole who had similar species to total 4lbs 9ozs and in third place with the same species was Tony Green with 1lb 5ozs.

Last Sunday 11 Bracknell Avocets anglers turned out at Froxfield for the start of the club knockout competitions.

Everybody got soaked before the start of the match by a heavy downpour. The match secretary tried to find the permanent pegs, but he gave up looking and changed the match to a walk-off.

The overall match weight was 31lbs 1oz. The match was won by John Smith with 8lbs 13ozs fishing the first swim down from Lock 70. Second was Terry Smith with 6lbs fishing the first swim above the lock and third was Alan Powell with 4bs 4ozs.

Away from RDAA waters and Reading Fishing Club fished their club’s Stepney Cup on the Thames at Goring.

Malcolm Vigor took the cup with 19lbs 12ozs of roach, dace and perch while match secretary Keith Wilkins was runner-up with 10lbs 12ozs of perch, roach and chublets. Pete Godfrey took third place with 10lbs of mixed silver.

Seventeen anglers graced the bank and weighed in a total of 110lbs 13ozs.

The RDAA Tuesday Club fished the Thames at Goring where Bartos Cefka found the fish in front of him and totalled 23lbs 10ozs of mainly roach. Terry Littlewood took the runner-up spot with 21lbs.
