THE team of Alan Denton (25hcp), Mike Biddle (17hcp) and James Pike (23hcp) were the resounding winners of the Captain’s Challenge at Mapledurham.

With the best two stableford scores counting on each hole, they recorded a magnificent 90 points to seal victory by six.

Runners-up in the 30-team competition were John Daniels (12hcp), Garry Barton (8hcp) and Steve Briggs (16hcp).

They carded 84 points, which was enough to beat Paul Druce (13hcp), Darren Druce (9hcp) and Rod Wessen (17hcp) by one.

The nearest the pin prizes were won by Colston Davey (2nd), Simon Sawyer (6th), Terry Spice/Berni Doyle (8th), Ian Goodall (14th) and Mike Sheriden/Karen Bridges (18th).

The longest drive competitions went to Tanveer Abbas and Karen Bridges.

  • MIKE Roberts of Newbury & Crookham GC won the 19+ Interclub Tournament at Reading on Monday.

He topped a field of 64 players with 39 points, one clear of clubmates Peter Hawkins (second on countback) and Seif Morbi.

Newbury & Crookham won the team prize with 212 points ahead of Calcot Park (190) and East Berks (186).

Sonning’s Kenny MacMillian won the nearest the pin, Calcot’s Peter Cook won the longest drive and David Fidler of Sonning had the straightest drive.
