BERKSHIRE Ladies earned a 130-99 victory against Hertfordshire in a friendly.

The eventual winners got off to a slow start, but by the half-way stage the scores were even.

By the 15th end Berkshire had overtaken their opponents to seal victory in four of the six rinks.

Top rink for Berkshire was skipped by county secretary Gillian Chamberlain with Jennifer Bartter, Jackie Nunn and Shirley Dutton. They were plus 14 shots.

In the second round of matches in the national Middleton Cup, Berkshire Men beat Oxfordshire 130-123. They are now eight points clear in the south section after winning both their games.

In the ladies’ county two-wood singles, Bet Aubrey will play Maggie Scrace and Sylvia Pearce meets Judy Bacon. The games will be played on the weekend of July 23/24.

  • TWYFORD BC secured two big wins in their Kennet League.

They thrashed Reading B 93-60 (12-2 on points), with Barry Carter leading his rink of Jim Turner, Jim Walter and Mick Walker to a 38-13 win.

Nick Orde also looked to be heading for a runaway victory with Ron Stock, Tony Phillips and Peter Garraway before their opponents staged a late fight back and reduced the winning margin to 23-10.

The other winning rink was a much tighter affair with Brian Stain, Tony Turner, Chris Hosier and Gordon Wheeler managing to hang on to 20-17.

A 95-73 (12-2) victory at Maidenhead Town B moved Twyford above their opponents into second in the league.

Stain made his mark on the game with a 25-11 victory along with Alan Wrigley, Hosier and Wheeler, edging out Carter for top rink honours (32-21).

Mick Kenway, Bob Wright, Paul Hynes and Mike Self won 23-22.

The Kennet LX side was beaten 52-38 (8-2) by Desborough.

Stain again did best along with Kenway and Hynes, winning a low-scoring match 15-12 despite being ahead for the whole game from the second end onwards.

Twyford lost their midweek friendly to Hurst by 21 shots – Rita Orde providing the only winning rink for Twyford along with Ann Harris and Hosier – and their weekend game narrowly 92-89 to Desborough.
