HUNDREDS of Reading school children gathered at the Green Park Conference Centre to be recognised for their achievement in the 2016 Green Park Schools’ Challenge recently.

The Deputy Mayor of Reading, Cllr Mohammed Ayub, was joined by Claire Watson, Events Logistics Manager at Green Park and Race Director, Judith Manson, in helping award prizes to Under 7s, U9s, U11s, U13s, U15s and U17s.

The top three boys and girls in each age group were presented with trophies, as well as the top three performing school teams.

Chey Kemp won the boys’ race ahead of Reading Athletic Club teammates Sam Rodda and Matthew Rawlings, while Amy Ratcliffe beat Georgia Whalley and Renee Whalley to take the girls’ prize. (3rd).

Manson said: “It was fantastic to be a part of the awards and witness the enthusiasm of all those present.

“As well as the children who were undoubtedly excited about being rewarded, it’s also apparent the parents and teachers care a great deal and are truly proud about the achievements of their children and pupils.

“The Green Park Challenge is a great introduction into the running community and hopefully we’ll see these runners in the Reading Half Marathon in a few years to come. ”

More than 1,500 children from schools across Reading completed the 3km run in April which took in the sites of Green Park before finishing in the heart of the Madejski Stadium.
