WELL, what do you think about the England RFU’s decision to appoint Eddie Jones as head coach? He’s the first non-Englishman to get the job and has been handed a four-year contract.

He’s certainly been around the international scene for many years having coached the Wallabies, been technical adviser to the Springboks in 2007 and was Japan’s coach during this year’s Rugby World Cup. Prior to that he was also helping out coaching Saracens. So he’s got a good pedigree including a fair knowledge of UK rugby.

My own view is we need a change of playing style and he will need to change the whole of the current coaching team if we are going to be the best in the world.

Let’s face it, we are one of the richest rugby nations, we have the money, facilities and players, we just need to pick the best players in the right positions to do the job. And, yes, that includes our overseas players.

The Aviva Premiership returns this weekend and London Irish are part of the Double Header at Twickenham on Saturday.

Exiles take on London Wasps – who are fresh from a stunning win against Toulon – after early unbeaten leaders Saracens take on Worcester.

Redingensians Rams – who must be heartedly relieved at last Saturday’s National Two South win at Southend Saxons – host Bury St. Edmunds as they go in search of a fourth victory of the season.

Another win for Rams would certainly make life far more comfortable for them and get them right back on track.

It’s certainly something my boys Reading need to do as they slumped to an eighth South West One East defeat in nine league outings at home to Swindon.

We are now 10 points behind 11th-placed Trowbridge and are in deep trouble.

The next three weeks are key as we take on Trowbridge, and then the bottom two – High Wycombe and Swanage & Wareham. It’s a huge three weeks.

Southern Counties North leaders Reading Abbey came away from Aylesbury with a win, and they can extend their lead at the top when they visit Thatcham on Saturday.

In the BB&O Championship, Berkshire Shire Hall battled but narrowly came unstuck at home to Harwell.
