Letter: Take care to keep your eye on the ball

SO Reading Borough Council's Housing and Community Care is heading for an over-spend of £955,000. (Chronicle, November 5)

Judging from previous newspaper reports, this is actually within Community Care. It would be reassuring for the council tax payers of Reading to know that the director and her management team are assiduously working to take advantage of all opportunities to make savings, no matter how politically difficult, while improving, or at least, maintaining services, particularly for older people.

Various letters in the local press suggest that our councillors have already commenced the pre-election squabbling.

Could it be that they have taken their eyes off of the ball and that senior Community Care managers are able to obstruct saving proposals from front line managers for reasons that defy logic?
