THE front page of last week's Woodley and Earley Chronicle on proposed bus alterations made interesting as well as depressing reading.
Much of the detail needs further discussions between relevant affected people but several points arise separately. It is an unfortunate fact that good news is shouted from the rooftops whereas bad news is hidden away as much as possible.
Some time ago we were bombarded with continuous hype about new coloured buses, premier routes, generous frequencies etc. Now times are very different, the bad news is kept to a minimum and mostly relegated to a 'www' source which is not accessible by many people, especially older persons who are often most affected by bus changes.
All news should be readable by printed sources as well as the internet.
The recession is not Reading Buses' fault but the company in recent years seems at times to have been managed as a PR exercise rather than on the realities of urban transport problems.
