THE free bus pass is the best thing that Labour has provided. But as usual they did not think it through.
If the bus pass enabled us to have a day ticket it would cut the cost to the council significantly.
The bus companies have got greedy. By truncating routes across Reading you now have to take more than one bus to go shopping, or to cross from one side of reading to the other in any direction. Roue 9 has been cut and re-routed - it used to be a circular route, accessing both town and supermarkets, discontinued the 112, re-routed the 20 and 21.
People along the Shinfield Road Park and surrounding areas have no direct bus route to a supermarket.
It takes three buses to get to the Morrisons Basingstoke Road, two buses to get to ASDA Lower Earley, it's a farce. Costing the council more than is necessary. While the bus companies rub their hands in glee and count the pounds. Our pounds!
