'Remember the Person' was the theme of our recent nationwide Alzheimer's Society Dementia Awareness Week encouraging people to be a friend to someone with memory problems. We are writing to thank everyone who helped us during this special week, but also to highlight those carers who dedicate themselves every day to making life better for someone with memory problems.

We, at the West Berkshire office, are always humbled and heartened by the stories we hear of spouses, families, friends, neighbours going about their caring quietly but too often with little support. We can all help someone with dementia by treating them with respect and dignity, being a good listener and communicator, staying in touch & offering practical help, maybe organising a special day out or treat and helping family members in any number of ways. For more on our local activities or support contact Kim Westall or Margaret Gould at the Alzheimer's Society West Berkshire on 01635-500869/500870 or email kim.westall@alzheimers.org.uk
