Fair votes campaigners demonstrating outside Reading Civic Centre last week

As Liberal Democrat candidates in the Caversham area, we were struck as we went around with our canvassing teams in our respective wards what a groundswell there was on the doorstep for change.

This desire for something different, a move away from the former "dog eat dog politics" of the old Tories and Labour was reflected in the increase in votes we received, for which we thank you very much.

Such a mood is in contrast to the results in terms of seats the Liberal Democrats won in both the national and local elections, results which serve to emphasise the distortions of our current electoral system.

Many demos have taken place in favour of voting reform.

We would therefore invite readers to join local Liberal Democrat team members who, along with hard working Liberal Democrat councillors, are fighting to make Britain and Reading a better place in which to live.
