The Burma Star Memorial Stone, in the Forbury Gardens, which is dedicated to those local men who lost their lives in the Burma Campaign during World War Two, is badly in need of restoration.
The Reading branch of the association has consulted with AB Walker & Son Ltd.
They have agreed to replace the existing memorial with a silver grey granite material and in addition to maintain the memorial, repainting and regilding when necessary on behalf of the Burma Star Association.
This is to be completed in time for our annual memorial service in the Forbury Gardens on Sunday, May 23. The cost of the work involved is £587.50. If any of your readers would like to contribute towards this cost it would be very much appreciated.
This generous offer by AB Walker & Son will ensure that the memorial will be well cared for when those surviving members, now well into their eighties, have departed this world.
Please send your donation, however small, to: The Treasurer, Reading Branch, Burma Star Association, 2 Silverthorne Drive, Caversham, Reading, RG4 7NS.
