I am an 85-year-old lady who was caught up during the severe snow in Reading on 21st December 2009.
I was staying in Lower Earley with my two grandsons and my 91-year-old husband.
Realising I was stranded in Reading town centre, as the buses and taxis were abandoned, I became very anxious.
My grateful thanks go out to the lady at Reading Train Station who used her mobile to alert my husband that I was unable to get home.
However, the Transport Police helped me take the train to Earley Station and assured me that a taxi would be waiting for me.
Unfortunately, this was not available and so a very kind gentleman helped me to alert police at Lodden Valley of my situation who very kindly picked me up and took me home safely; the two officers were indeed 'angels of mercy'.
I would like to convey my sincere thanks to everyone who helped me to get home safely on that very difficult day. Again, thank you all for your kindness.
E Long
