WALKING through the centre of Reading I was shocked to see how many shops had their doors open - I closed a few as I was passing!
People working in the stores who I spoke to said they were instructed to leave the doors open.
Personally, I have never been into a store just because a manager was so thoughtless as to insist that his staff had to work in the cold!
We are all being exhorted to save energy. It is wasteful to be letting so much heat just escape into the street and monstrously callous to expect shop staff to shiver in their socks.
Vendors of Reading, it is time to shut your doors!

Perhaps these stores keep their doors open so that the heat can get out and thaw out the pavement outside their premises !
