THE charities who will benefit from this year’s Woodley Community Carnival have been announced.

Me2 Club, Woodley Community First Responders, Just Around the Corner (JAC) and Woodley Food Bank will be the beneficiaries of the money raised through this year’s carnival, which is due to be held on Saturday, June 9.

The Heroes and Villains-themed event, which will take place on the Memorial Field, in Headley Road, features an evening concert, carnival procession and a whole afternoon of stalls, fun activities, games and displays from various groups and organisations.

Committee chairman Peter Jacobs said: “Making the final decision on each of the primary beneficiaries is always a challenge with so many deserving local good causes. We are now taking nominations for next year’s carnival, if selected they would receive a proportion of the funds raised from the 2019 Carnival.”

Liz McDaniel , fundraising development officer at Me2 Club, said: “At Me2 Club we are all so excited to hear that this year we have been chosen as a beneficiary of the Woodley Carnival.

“This year we are celebrating our 15th birthday and this event will give us the perfect opportunity to spread the word about our work. On the day we will once again be having a stall and we are hoping that this year we may also find enough volunteers to help us with entering a float.”

A spokesman for Woodley First Responder Group, Will Parish, added: “Our team was selected as a nominated charity for the 2017 Woodley Carnival and in October last year we received a generous donation from the committee of £2,000. This money was invested into the purchase of a new response kit and training equipment, to help meet the demands of our ever growing team.

“To receive the news that our 2018 application had also been successful was fantastic and we can’t wait to attend the carnival again this year.”
