SCHOOLCHILDREN in Woodley proved they were whizzes in the kitchen as they took part in a cross-school Bake Off competition.
Pupils from the Woodley Schools Cluster, which is made up of Highwood Primary School, Rivermead Primary School, and South Lake Primary School, came together for the event at The Bulmershe School shortly before half term.
Eight children from each school worked in pairs throughout the day creating showstopper cakes and biscuits, before being judged on taste, creativity and appearance, as well as being marked on teamwork and independent working.
The creations were then judged by Woodley councillor Keith Baker and Bulmershe School headteacher Amanda Woodfin, while the Mayor of Woodley, Cllr Jenny Cheng, and chair of the Woodley Schools Cluster and Highwood Primary School headteacher Matt Hickey presented the certificates.
The winners were Isabella and Annie from Rivermead Primary School. with their cat-shaped cake.
A spokesperson said: “The children worked hard throughout the day using their maths skills and teamwork as well as learning the importance of reading the instructions carefully. They produced a short presentation about why they had chosen their design and how they had got on with the baking.
“They had a great time, and were a credit to their schools, as were the Year 9 Ambassadors from Bulmershe School who supported the primaries throughout the day.”
