PRIMARY school children are sporting fetching new football kits after winning a Premier League award scheme.

Beechwood Primary School in Woodley was presented with 14 packs, including shirts, shorts and socks, by the Premier League Primary Stars initiative.

Schools from across the country sent in the forms asking for new jerseys by proving how important football is to the school.

James Sewell and Sophie Rowse, PE and sport coordinators at Beechwood Primary, said: “We would like to thank the Premier League for gifting us a brand new football kit that matches our school colours.

“This gesture has made it possible for us to compete locally and regionally in a greater capacity of games, which makes it possible for our children to improve in football and to keep healthy.

“We have got a lot of children who are interested in playing football. It is a great way to stay healthy and the children love their new kits.

“We have boys and girls teams and the interest for football at the school appears to be improving this season.

“The kit would have cost us hundreds of pounds to purchase ourselves, so we are very happy to be chosen.”

Beechwood Primary had the chance to play in their new red kits at the annual Crosfields football tournament and the school expects to compete in more regional tournaments.

Teachers will also have access to a range of learning tools across Key Stage 1 and 2 for Maths and English, created by the likes of Countdown’s Rachel Riley and children’s author Dan Freedman.

Richard Scudamore, executive chairman of the Premier League, said: “Congratulations to Beechwood Primary School on their successful application for a Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment pack.

“We hope this kit will help teachers harness the popularity of football to inspire primary school kids in everything from Maths and English to teamwork and sport.”
