FIRST aid responders were handed a cheque for £1,000 at the latest meeting of Woodley Women's Club on Monday evening.

A total of 73 members attended the 58th AGM of the women's group at the Oakwood Centre, which recognised Woodley Community Responders after a year of fundraising.

Woodley Women's Club collected the money throughout the year by selling cakes at the annual Carnival and from table top sales under the Pagoda in the precinct.

Anne Yousif, team co-ordinator for Woodley First Responders, gave a short speech about her small team of six volunteers, who dedicate their spare time to being emergency first aiders for South Central Ambulance Service.

As well as donating £1,000 to the Community Responders, the Club also nominated their next charity for the forthcoming year, with the majority of members voting for a faxitron machine for the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
