GENEROUS schoolchildren have donated £800 to help provide entertainment and fun to care home residents.

Students from The Abbey School held fundraising events for Lakeside Care, which provides 72 beds to elderly people suffering with dementia.

The children visited the Earley care home recently to present the cheque and spend time with the residents.

Sheila Garraway, lifestyle and activities co-ordinator, said: "We were contacted by The Abbey School asking if they could co-ordinate with our care home in any way and help and volunteer.

Reading Chronicle:

"We are very strong on having ongoing links with our local community in many ways and organise lots of social groups who visit the home."

Charity champions from Year 6 presented the cheque after girls from across the junior school worked hard to raise funds.

The money was raised by selling personally designed Christmas cards and wrapping paper in the run up to the festive season.

Lakeside residents will now be able to look forward to a number of outings in the coming year, including a trip to the school to see 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' next term.
