A PHOTOGRAPHER inspired by the serene surrounds of Earley has been recognised in a prestigious competition.
Nigel Burkitt, 72, captured the town's poppies and wildflowers and was honoured with the top prize in the 'Greening Grey Britain' category.
The awards, organised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), coincide with the Chelsea Flower Show and celebrate a shared love of gardening.
Following his success, Mr Burkitt said: "I can remember driving along Rushey Way three years ago and noticing colour emerging from the vegetation at the roadside.
"This turned into the most amazing mini roadside wild flower meadow. I shot the poppies last year just after sunrise and they looked amazing.
"It was a complete surprise to learn my image was shortlisted and would then go on to win the Greening Grey Britain category in the RHS competition."
