A GANG of thieves assaulted a Tesco Express worker before making off with cash in a late-night robbery in Earley.

It is believed the four men entered the supermarket on Silverdale Road at around 11pm on Thursday, May 18.

The shop, which recently opened on May 9, was raided by the group, who left on foot in the direction of Wokingham Road via Maiden Erlegh Drive.

The shop worker had to be taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital after suffering minor injuries, but has since been discharged.

Police believe the four men made their escape with the help of a getaway car.

An unknown man and woman who left the store shortly before the attack are also being sought to help police with the investigation.

Investigating officer, DC Steven Martin from Reading Force CID, said: "We would like to speak to the individuals pictured, as they may hold valuable information to help with our investigation.

"We would continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the robbery, or to anyone in the Wokingham Road or Maiden Erlegh Drive area who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour or vehicles following the incident, to please come forward.

"I'd also like to speak to two customers who were in the store just before the offence took place who may be witnesses. They are believed to be a man at 10.57pm who left in a car, and a woman at 10.59pm who left on her bike.

"If you recognise the men pictured or have any information in relation to the incident, please contact the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101, quoting incident reference 43170144281."
