EARLEY householders have been warned to be on their guard following a spate of break-ins.

Since October 28 burglaries have been reported in Allonby Close, Paddick Drive, Colmworth Close, Bradmore Way and Fordham Way.

Raiders stole various items including handbags, cash, jewellery, laptops, mobile phones and documents.

In some cases they entered the buildings through unsecured windows in the evening or during the night while the occupants were at home, and they abandoned the emptied handbags and wallets nearby as they fled.

Det Sgt Catherine Woodliffe said anyone who finds a discarded bag or wallet should hand it in to police, and added: "I would like to remind residents to make sure they lock all windows and doors, particularly after dark, even if they are in the house. Make sure valuable items are kept out of sight and in a safe place."

Anyone with information should call the police on 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
