A GENERATION of students growing up with digital cameras are making their mark with stunning photographs.
Year 11 students at Maiden Erlegh School will display their best snaps, paintings and drawings at a free exhibition next month, showcasing the best of their coursework, two years in the making.
It will be held at the Peacock Gallery on the school campus in Silverdale Road, Earley, starting on Friday, June 11 and running until Wednesday, June 16. It is open 2.30-4.30pm on weekdays and 10am-1pm on the Saturday. Joan McQuillan from the gallery said: "Inspiration began with a visit to Kew Gardens where students drew in small sketchbooks, made notes and took photographs of the wide range of exotic plants and flowers they saw.
"From these observations they developed varied and imaginative outcomes ranging from hats to batiks [patterned cloths] to ceramic forms.
"This show also reveals the growing interest, photography, which features alongside more traditional approaches of observing through drawing and painting. The digital camera has had a great influence upon the way pupils view the world.
"A small group of students worked on a photography project with artists from The Wallace Collection in London."
