AN AMATEUR cyclist is gearing up for a marathon bike ride down the entire length of the country.

Adam Morris, 32, from Ravenglass Close, Lower Earley, is riding from John O"Groats to Lands End with three friends for Cancer Research - but is unsure how he will cope with cycling 100 miles on the first day when he has never done more than 40 miles in his life.

But he said: 'I"m looking forward to being out in the fresh air for two weeks and to cycling through the tranquillity of the Scottish Highlands.'

Mr Morris, an operations manager for Debenhams in The Oracle, lost both grandfathers to cancer and his mum Hazel beat the disease.

He is doing a London to Brighton bike ride later this month as a warm-up for the main event, which starts on August 14.

The group have self-funded all of the costs of the trip, including food and accommodation, and are looking to raise £5,000 for their nominated charities which also include Great Ormond Street Hospital, the British Heart Foundation and Leukaemia Research.

Mr Morris said: 'Whatever you are able to donate towards our charities will make a big difference to people's lives so it is greatly appreciated.'
