MORE than 50 students evacuated a halls of residence after a late night kitchen fire.
Crews from Caversham Road, Whitley Wood and Wokingham Road fire stations were called to the University of Reading"s Bulmershe Halls in Woodlands Avenue, Earley at around 10.30am after a passer by raised the alarm.
Two officers in breathing apparatus used one hose reel to battle the flames in the ground floor kitchen after residents had exited the four storey block of flats.
No-one was hurt and there was minimal smoke damage to the building.
Wokingham Road"s watch manager Gary Foster said: 'We strongly remind members of the public not to leave cooking unattended. Most kitchen fires are caused by people leaving pans unattended - it only takes seconds for saucepans to ignite.'
He added: 'It was a dramatic incident, but luckily damage was minimal.'
