A LOWER Earley alarm engineer has managed to lose so much weight that he has been able to take up horse riding again.

Glenn Foot, of Bottisham Close, put on weight over the years and had to give up his favourite hobby, but with perseverance, Weight Watchers meetings and 6.30am swims every morning, he is back in the saddle after losing 5 1/2 stone in nine months. That is the equivalent of 77 footballs, or 15 bricks.

Mr Foot, 28, said: 'I feel so much healthier too, and was surprised at being able to lose so much weight in such a short time. It"s fantastic being able to ride again.'

He and wife Kate - who managed to lose 4 1/2 stone - now go riding at Cullinghood stables near Pangbourne.

Alison Roberts, Weight Watchers leader in Reading, said: 'Losing this weight has given Glenn so much more confidence, and the change is fantastic. More men are overweight than women now, 67% vs 58% respectively.'

The Foots went to the Maiden Place community centre meetings in Earley, but there are many others around Reading, call 08457 123 000, or visit www.weightwatchers.co.uk
