A COLLEGE in Woodley continues to give good provision to students, a recent Ofsted inspection has found.

Waingels College, in Waingels Road, was given a short inspection on February 21.

Inspectors found that the school continued to be good since the last inspection in July 2013.

In the report, which was published on Tuesday, March 13, inspectors praised the college’s principal, Tom Bartlett for his ‘compassion and determination’ since taking over the role two years ago.

The team of inspectors also found that as a result of improvements made by school leaders, the standards of education are ‘rising rapidly’, and that students made above-average rates of progress at GCSE last year.

Mr Bartlett said: “We are very pleased with the strong endorsement of our recent Ofsted report. Ofsted have recognised the outstanding achievements of our students at both KS4 and KS5 but they have also recognised the impact that our new ethos is having on raising standards.

It was particularly pleasing that Ofsted said, ‘As a result of improvements that leaders have implemented, standards are rising rapidly’ and that, ‘Pupils are proud to belong to Waingels College’.

“We recognise that while there are many strengths in the school there is still work to do and we were gratified that Ofsted recognised that we will “stop at nothing to make things even better”. They noted also that we are determined to realise our ambition to be an exceptional school, striving for excellence, at the heart of our community.

“Ofsted’s report is a celebration of our excellent results and a strong endorsement of the change of ethos and culture we are implementing and it has given us renewed determination to push ahead with further improvements to make sure we provide the very best education for our young people that ensures that they are thoroughly prepared for the challenges that life will present to them.”
