CHILDREN celebrated a significant milestone by gathering items and burying a time capsule for the pupils of the future.

Highwood Primary School's 50th anniversary was attended by councillor Sam Rahmouni on December 13.

The school opened in 1967 as Bulmershe County Primary to provide places for children who were moving into the area.

Matt Hickey, head teacher, said: "The children all worked hard on their items for the time capsule, with each class contributing something different to show the pupils of the future what life is like at Highwood today, and the behaviours and values that are important to us now.

"Some children wrote stories based on our Learning Behaviours, and others made booklets to show how they spend their time at school.

"We hope that the future staff and pupils of Highwood enjoy seeing how school life was in 2017 when they open the capsule in 2067."

The new Nursery and Foundation stages of Highwood opened in September and it is hoped more spaces will be available at the school by autumn 2018.
