AN ALDI supermarket and drive through Costa Coffee shop could be coming to Suttons Business Park in plans to revamp the site.

The new stores are part of a proposed bid to replace a vacant unit and refurbish another to breath new life and draw in shoppers.

Owners of the park Standard Life Investments have yet to draw up specific designs but are "getting the ball rolling" through a pre-application submitted to Wokingham Borough Council.

Both Aldi and Costa Coffee have agreed to be a part of the project if planning leaders give the designs the green light which are expected to be ready next spring or summer.

The new additions would sit on the far eastern side of the business park on London Road at the foot of Shepherds Hill.

Colin Hall, development manager at Standard Life Investments, has said: "This is an exciting opportunity to bring new jobs and investment to the local area whilst improving the attractiveness and desirability of the business park for new and existing industrial tenants and improving the retail offer for the local community.

"There is also a wider need to ensure that the business park remains an attractive location to invest, in the face of increasing competition from other locations in the Thames Valley.

"Our plans are still very much at an early stage and we will be speaking to local residents and businesses in the New Year, so that we can understand their aspirations for the site before finalising our plans and submitting a planning application to Wokingham Borough Council."

A public consultation is due to take place early next year which will give those living and working in the area a chance to voice their opinions.

Leaders at the business park believed a number of the units had become outdated and were not meeting current requirements.

The proposals would see unit 21 demolished to make way for the supermarket and drive through coffee shop and unit 27-28 brought up to modern specs.

Paul Erskine, spokesman for the park's owners, said: "The plans are very much in the early stages at the moment and there a re still discussions as to how it would tie in with the park and ride but this is very much a commercial development of the area.

"We think it could be a positive thing for residents."
