A NEW courtyard is just one of the improvement set to spruce up a library in Woodley.

Council chiefs from Wokingham Borough Council have allocated funds to the Woodley Library to pay for a series of developments, including new lighting and a meeting room.

The enclosed courtyard, which was officially unveiled to the public last week, has transformed an area that was previously out of action and needed heavy maintenance.

Workers laid down a patio, installed lighting around the garden and installed a water feature.

New doors have also been added to the library to make the garden area more accessible.

Councillor Pauline Jorgensen, executive member for residents’ services, said the meeting room will be available to hire for small businesses and local community groups, adding: “Our libraries across the borough are much loved by their many users and increasing in popularity.

"I am pleased we have been able to improve the facilities in Woodley further and hope that this will attract even more people to drop-in and see what their local library has to offer.”

Libraries in Wokingham Borough are running a range of events and activities this winter, including a reading scheme for youngsters.
