A NEW Women's Institute (WI) group is being contemplated in Woodley Town following numerous requests to Berkshire's WI Federation

The women-only organisation received requests from residents in Woodley asking for a new club to be formed in the area.

Wendy England, an adviser for the county's group, is setting up an investigative meeting in September to see if the interest shown can be turned into a new group.

Mrs England is encouraging as many residents to come forward as she can muster together, and has already rallied more than 30 women.

She said: "We are setting up a meeting to see what the interest is. We will ask people if they want to form a WI group.

"If there's enough interest we will have a follow up meeting, which we have already pre-booked in October."

Mrs England said a number of the prospective members have been getting involved to advertise the potential new group, by delivering flyers around the streets of Woodley, and posting messages on social media.

"I hope we will get a good turnout," said Mrs England.

"The format of the meetings is we start with a small amount of business, it's a very large organisation so we discuss things passed down from the national federation, usually a speaker comes in and the ladies do activities which many get involved in, and then there is some social time."

Mrs England, from Calcot, added that if the group takes off she will be on hand for the first few sessions until she is confident the group no longer need her, when she will leave them to run the meetings alone.

The first meeting will be held on September 17 at Chapel Hall, London Bridge road, from 8pm-9.30pm.
